WPS were invited to manage the removal of the Jurassic Skyline Observation Tower at Weymouth, which was originally erected in 2011 in readiness for the 2012 Olympics. The Tower consisted of 5 sections, 1 motor room, 1 counterbalance weight and a rotating gondola to seat a maximum of 60 guests. The Observation Tower was to be decommissioned and carefully taken down for reuse at another facility.
The project consisted of 3 phases:
The careful dismantling and taking down of the Tower that was then secured, stored and prepared for onward transportation off-site. Due to the height and size of the sections of the Tower, this was completed with the use of cranes.
Removal of existing buildings including the Admissions Building and the Control Room that are powered directly from the on-site substation, various street furniture and the reinstatement of the area with appropriate external surfaces installed.
The reinstatement and making good of the site including the infill of the remaining void with foamed concrete, laying new drainage, kerbing, then capped with a new highway construction in accordance with the terms of the lease and as agreed with the Landlord. Disconnection of power from the substation and securing the substation with fencing and kerbing following the design provided by the electrical company at the bequest of the Landlord.
